Pascal Mercier had managed to describe the most exotic experience of a traveller with an apt choice of sentence construction and charming vocabulary. Throughout the book, the author reflects on his expertise in mixing thoughts with the long-lasting desires, that the lead character of this book, possesses. Feelings filled with the humidity of emotions reverberate in the midst of the inner silence of the protagonist and the city's cacophony. Amandeu de Prado, the hero of this novel, has made his presence everywhere through intriguing notes and close-knit relations.
This book is very indulgent when it comes to expatiating and empathizing with another person's musings. It's definitely a great venture that beautifully brings Latin, Portuguese, Spanish and French together through vivid strangers, the character comes across. The supporting characters, Fatima, Jorge O'Kelly, Maria, Ica, Adriana, and Estefania have ornamented this wonderful piece of work, brought to us in black and white.
