ANTHOLOGY REVIEW- STORIES BY RABINDRANATH TAGORE

Stories by Rabindranath Tagore (2015)
Director: Anurag Basu

Where do I start? This is a brilliant creation based on some magnificent short stories written by the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. This series is directed by Director Anurag Basu. This was first aired on EPIC channel and is also available on Netflix. Any director's nightmare is a remake of a Classic. More criticisms are expected in such cases as these are literary works that have been celebrated by the people for many years. Anurag Basu has done an impeccable job in visualizing the works of Tagore in the form of beautiful episodes. The settings, intense characters and brilliant performances have come together to create this exceptional piece and have made it an enjoyable watch for the viewers as well. Music is another great pillar that holds various elements together. The background scores and a few songs that have been remixed from famous poems and songs create magic through melody. Tagore's stories talk about Women's empowerment, Caste discrimination and many issues that are still relevant to what is happening in our society. Kudos to the creators for taking the initiative to recreate such significant content. A similar series should be created based on the revolutionary stories written by poets and authors like Puratchikavignar Bharathidasan, Arignar Anna, Kalaignar Karunanidhi and many more.

MOVIE REVIEW-POSSUM

Possum (2018) Director: Matthew Holness Starring: Sean Harris, Alun Armstrong A defamed children's puppeteer who is emotionally unstable and psychologically scarred plans to dispose of his grotesque puppet. Every time she tries discarding it, the puppet comes back to haunt him emotionally by being there in his room the very next day. This disturbs him in turn and deprives him of his sleep. His step-father also lives next door with whom he has an estranged relationship. Meanwhile, a young boy in the same neighbourhood gets kidnapped and the policemen start suspecting the puppeteer for it, given his weird behaviour and constant trips with the bag. The climax of the movie gives answers to the following questions, -Who kidnapped the young lad? -Why does the possum keep chasing him?

ALL FOR NOTHING

A text's verbosity reaches unfathomable grandiosity when poetry meets prose. Michael Ondaatje is gifted enough to weave a tale that's tragic in parts but wholly serene. At its core, "In the Skin of a Lion" treads the rugged path that courses a life chart making the journey somewhat worthwhile. Patrick Lewis is wildly swayed by the situational currents while what he truly yearns for is an ounce of regulated love. Love that is messy, uncompromising and effusively profound enough to make him feel things. At the fag end of his life, Patrick understands the universe's twisted sense of humour. In Patrick's case, timing plays a cursed role. Expectations are detached to deadlines. Everything has to run its course.  Alignments don't care about our whims and fancies. "Trust the process", we've been told.  But here's the neat part. By the time the pieces fall into place, everything ceases to makes sense; all dwindled down to a bunch of baloney. Al...

MOVIE REVIEW- MODIGLIANI

MODIGLIANI (2004) Director: Mick Davis  Starring : Andy García, Elsa Zylberstein, Omid Djalili Biopic of famous Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. The movie is set in Paris in 1919 and takes you on an artistic journey showcasing the life and works of Modigliani. During that era, Modigliani's biggest rival was another world-famous artist, Pablo Picasso. Their competition, self-centric approach and ego project them as mighty contenders and arch-rivals in the field of art. This eventually leads them to face each other in a famous competition that the whole world was waiting for Modigliani Vs Picasso. The works of Modigliani stood the test of time and were celebrated because of the emotions they radiated. To this day, this is being examined. All of Modigliani's works were the manifestation of his own emotions and experiences. This movie beautifully captures the personal story of the artist and closes with a climax that will leave you feeling heavy. Andy Garcia amazingly impers...
